"Darkness, distilled into silver." -Baudelaire
On his way to Thebes, Oedipus encountered the Sphinx, who put a riddle to all passersby and destroyed those who could not answer. Although Oedipus solved the riddle, and overcame the Sphinx, he was in the end swallowed into the earth and became a guardian hero of the land.
Some stories are too powerful to stay on canvas. This pendant set translates Gustave Moreau's iconic symbolist masterpiece, Oedipus and The Sphinx, permanently housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York into wearable sculpture-designed to be worn together or apart
Each piece began as a sketch in graphite, evolved into a hand-carved wax model, and cast in sterling silver through the lost-wax process. Every detail is finished by hand.
- Materials: Sterling silver (pendants + chain)
- Combined weight: Approximately 40 grams
- Oedipus pendant: ~2.5" in height
